FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about myFinnexa — how it works, where your data lives, and what it can and can't do.

Where is my financial data stored?

Entirely on your own device, in your browser's local storage. Nothing you type is uploaded to us or anyone else — there's no server holding your figures. This is also why your data is tied to the specific browser and device you used to enter it. You can read the full detail in our Privacy Policy.

Will I lose my data if I close the tab?

No. Your entries stay saved between visits and survive closing the tab or the browser. They're only removed if you clear them yourself, clear your browser's cache or site data, or use private/incognito browsing, which doesn't keep data after the window closes. If your figures matter, it's worth keeping a separate note of the key ones.

How does the savings forecast work?

It takes your current monthly income and expenses, applies them forward over the number of years you choose, and adds any starting balance you enter. You can layer on an inflation rate and an annual income-rise rate to compare an optimistic, a flat, and a realistic outcome side by side. It's a projection to help you plan, not a prediction — real life always has more variables.

Can I track different pay frequencies together?

Yes — that's one of the main things myFinnexa handles for you. Each entry can be weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly or yearly, and everything is converted to a common basis so the totals are always correct no matter how the costs are spread out.

What's the difference between the tracker and the business calculator?

The tracker is for your personal finances — income, expenses, savings and forecasting. The business calculator is a separate tool for side hustles and small businesses: it records sales and costs by date, groups expenses into categories, handles quantities and unit prices, and shows profit, margin and trends over whatever period you choose.

Who is behind myFinnexa? Is it a financial institution?

No — and that's worth stating plainly. myFinnexa isn't run by a bank, a lender or an accountancy firm, and it isn't regulated as one. It's built and maintained independently by a software professional.

It came out of the ordinary frustration of trying to keep a budget in a spreadsheet: forgetting the annual bills, guessing what a weekly cost worked out to per month, and abandoning the whole thing a few weeks in. The tools that offered to solve it wanted a bank login and a monthly fee, so this got built instead. There's more on the About page.

Is myFinnexa financial advice?

No. myFinnexa is a calculation and tracking tool, not a financial adviser, and nothing here is personalised financial advice. It shows you clear numbers based on what you enter so you can make your own informed decisions. For decisions that carry real weight, it's always worth speaking to a qualified professional.

Does myFinnexa work on mobile?

Yes. The layout adapts to phones, tablets and desktops, so you can add an entry on a phone just as easily as at a desk. Note that entries you add on your phone stay on your phone — they won't appear on your laptop, because there's no account syncing them. See the question below.

Can I use myFinnexa on more than one device?

You can use it on as many devices as you like, but each one keeps its own separate set of data. There's no sign-in, no account and no server, so there's nothing to sync your entries between devices.

In practice this means what you enter on your phone stays on your phone, and what you enter on your PC stays on your PC. The two won't merge, and neither will show the other's figures. Switching browsers on the same computer has the same effect — entries added in Chrome won't appear in Firefox or Safari.

This is a direct consequence of keeping your data private: because nothing is uploaded to us, there's no copy anywhere for a second device to pull from. If you want your full picture in one place, pick a single device and browser to do your budgeting on, and stick with it.
